When I was little, like most  boys, I liked to dig in the dirt. And, like many of you I thought if I dug a hole deep enough I would come out on the other side of the world. Well, if that were possible, the place we would end up in would be India! Unfortunately no such tunnel to the other side exists so instead we found ourselves traveling for two days, multiple flights and car rides to end up twelve and a half hours time difference away from home in the beautiful lower Himalayas!

Mussoorie India, tucked away in the foothills of the great Himalayan Mountain Range, may be a tourist destination for some but for us it was an opportunity to be apart of something bigger than ourselves. A chance to stretch ourselves beyond what we thought possible as we immersed ourselves in a brand new culture, tried new foods, made new friends and attempted to help the beautiful people of Northern India.

Our main purpose was to pay for and install a water catchment system for the Bible School. We helped lay pipe and install huge water catchment tanks, perched precariously on the side of the mountain. The system was completed after we left just in time to catch all the rain monsoon season brings. This will give the school much needed water during the dry season without having to pay for it!

While there, we also helped out at the various businesses owned by the school. A grueling CrossFit workout at over 8500 feet above sea level gave us access to the young men in town who had found community in that small gym. The Mud Cup cafe is a their latest venture with coffee drinks, western style food, and live events to draw the community together.

A two day trek through the Lower Himalayas gave us the opportunity to meet and have tea with the people of the tiny villages sprinkled throughout the mountain side.  We met so many wonderful and hospitable people who welcomed us and offered what little they had. We also visited the holy city of Rishakesh on the Ganges River. Known as the birthplace of Yoga, Rishakesh is a city steeped in spiritualism. It was eye opening seeing so many people searching for answers in that small, crowded and yet stunning city.
